Dr. Moore is a historian and Senior Associate Vice President, Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Leonard N. Moore is a professor of history, African and African-American studies, and African and African diaspora studies, as well as a senior associate vice president at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Moore’s talk was part of the colloquium CONFRONTING RACE, HISTORY & SYMBOLS OF EXCLUSION.

The purpose of the colloquium is to provide an academic backdrop for meaningful conversations that incorporate history as a central lens for analyzing recent events-such as the treatment of black athletes on predominantly white college campuses, police shootings of unarmed blacks or the confederate battle flag, for example-to engage these issues, and help all of our community members develop an informed response to them.

Texas Lutheran University students experience a challenging academic environment that sets a path for life-long learning. Our students engage in high-impact educational experiences that include civic engagement, aesthetic expression, critical thinking, and a focus on intercultural and global knowledge in a community that welcomes the interplay of faith and reason.
